Factor 55 is an engineering design firm specializing in mechanical design and analysis with extensive experience in the Aerospace, Defense, and semiconductor industries, but we have always been passionate about off-roading throughout our careers. All of our products are designed in-house using the latest 3D CAD software and are subject to a destructive test on each design with the assistance of a test facility equipped with test measurement to ensure sound engineering disciplines.

Factor 55 FlatLink E (Expert), WLL 16,000 lbs. Capacity – Heavy-Duty, Portable Vehicle Recovery Tow Winch: Closed System Winching Operation

WINCH SAFETY STARTS HERE

When off-roading, it is inevitable that you will eventually need to recover a vehicle, and it is essential to have the safest, most effective equipment to aid in the rescue. Factor 55 FlatLink E allows for Closed System Winching, which is simply winching using closed-link hardware, where you aren’t relying on spring-loaded safety clasps that are common in winch hooks. Our unique design allows for interfacing with different cables and ropes to recover cars, trucks, SUVs, Jeeps, ATVs, and UTVs.

  • MADE IN THE USA
  • Max. Load Rating: 16,000 lbs
  • Ultimate failure : greater than 40,000 lbs
  • Fits steel cables and synthetic winch ropes up to 3/8” diameter
  • EPDM Rubber Guard protects alloy fairleads and cushions line stowage
  • Simple snap ring removal for shear pin

What Is Closed System Winching?

Closed System Winching is a winching technique using rigging comprised entirely of closed link hardware. The non-closable opening of common winch hooks and poorly constructed sheet metal safety latches do not qualify as a secure means to contain loads and are prone to failure. During momentary slack conditions where winch loads often shift, recovery ropes may endure high forces and hooks often come loose during vehicle recovery operations due to hook safety latch failures, causing safety concerns.

Factor 55 FlatLink E addresses this winch safety issue by providing a secure screw pin shackle mounting interface to all steel winch cables and synthetic winch ropes. The Factor 55 unique double shear pin design provides a simple, trouble-free method of attaching existing cable and rope eyes to the FlatLink E. This provides a precision mounting hole for screw pin shackles and also provides a large rubber-protected flat surface to cushion against all fairlead mounting surfaces.

Conventional winch hooks can cut and fray recovery straps and often allow strap ends to escape during momentary slack cycles of a typical winching recovery. FlatLink E’s large, pear-shaped shackle mounting hole is rounded to reduce fraying and abrasion and also allows for attachment to either the pin or bow end of common screw pin shackles, as well as common OEM recovery points.

Factor 55 FlatLink E (Expert) is machined from 6000 series billet aluminum to ensure product consistency in metal urging properties and is rated for 16,000 lbs., but possesses a breaking strength of over 47,000 lbs. Our Closed System Winching operation eliminates the conventional winch and hook by replacing it with a stronger, safer, and more secure screw and pin shackle.

FlatLink E is machined for strength, durability, and superior performance. The FlatLink E can be used with the pin end of common ¾ shackle, attach to the body of a ¾ shackle, large inner radius for use with Soft Shackles, and can fit easily over most OEM recovery tow points.
